Step Two: Get Pre-Approved
Once you've built a basic understanding of the process, it's time to talk with one of our preferred lenders.
Your lender will review your current financial picture and determine how much you can comfortably qualify for.
This is one of the most important steps in your homebuying journey, and it should happen before you begin seriously looking at homes.
Getting pre-approved helps you:

Avoid falling in love with a home that's outside your price range.
Step Three: Build Your Team
In my opinion, choosing the right buyer's agent is one of the most important decisions you'll make.
A knowledgeable, experienced buyer's agent does much more than unlock doors.

Identify neighborhoods that fit your lifestyle and budget.
Find homes that meet your needs.
Schedule and accompany showings.
Analyze comparable sales ("comps").
Determine a competitive offer price.
Prepare and submit your offer.
Negotiate on your behalf.

Work closely with your lender and title company.
Guide you all the way through closing.
By the time you receive your keys, you'll probably have asked more than 100 questions. A great buyer's agent patiently answers those questions while helping keep your transaction on track from beginning to end.
Of course, not every negotiation results in an agreement, and that's okay. Sometimes a deal simply isn't the right fit. An experienced agent helps you navigate those situations, too.
Step Four: Be an Active Part of the Team
Buying a home is a team effort.
Once you've chosen the right lender and the right buyer's agent, you're surrounded by professionals who are working toward the same goal.
But your participation matters, too.
During the transaction, you'll review and sign documents, respond to emails, provide financial information to your lender, and make important decisions along the way.
Staying responsive helps everything move forward smoothly.
Your lender will also ask you to avoid making major financial changes during the process. For example, don't finance a new car, open new credit accounts, or change jobs without discussing it with your lender first. Those changes can affect your loan approval.
